Notary services

The Italian Economic, Trade and Cultural Promotion Office in Taipei performs – exclusively against Italian citizens who are abroad permanently or temporarily – some notarial functions provided for by our system. Essentially it concerns the receipt of public deeds (powers of attorney, testaments), notorious deeds, authentications and subscriptions affixed to private deeds. Alternatively, the Italian citizen abroad can formalize the deed with a public notary officially accredited in the country of residence and must have the notary’s signature legalized by an Italian consular office.

Translation and legalization of documents

In order to be validated in Italy, the deeds and documents, including civil status records, issued by Taiwanese authorities must be legalized by the Italian Office for Economic, Commercial and Cultural Promotion in Taipei.

Such deeds and documents, except those drawn up on multilingual models provided for by international Conventions, must also be translated into Italian.

Non Italian citizens who need to assert proxies and/or powers of attorney in Italy must submit to the Italian Office for Economic, Commercial and Cultural Promotion in Taipei an original proxy/power of attorney, in English or in traditional Chinese, whose signature has been authenticated by a Notary Public delegated by the Taiwan’s MOFA and recognized by the Italian Office for Economic, Commercial and Cultural Promotion in Taipei.

To proceed with the legalization, the document has to be authenticated by a Public Notary delegated by Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and recognized by the Italian Economic, Trade and Cultural Promotion Office in Taipei. The applicant has subsequently to present himself/herself by appointment at the Consular Office with the deed (in original) to be legalized.

The Consular Section of the Italian Office for Economic, Commercial and Cultural Promotion in Taipei issues the translation into Italian of the civil status documents (for the sole purpose of transcription in the public register) and of study diplomas.

The aforementioned acts are subject to the payment of the fees provided for by the Consular Fees in force.
