BIOGRAPHY OF MARCO LOMBARDI
Marco Lombardi was born in Turin on February 7, 1973. In addition to Italian, he speaks English, French, Japanese and Spanish.
In 1997, he graduated in Political Science from the University of Turin, with a thesis on the relationship between the processes of regionalization between Countries and the globalization of the international economy. He was a Research Fellow and Assistant Professor of International Economics at the Political Science Department of the University of Turin.
From 1995 to 1997, he held the position of Board Member of the Regional Authority for the Right to Education of the Piedmont Region, responsible for the management of student housing and real estate of the University of Piedmont. At the same time, he was a Board Member at the Political Science Department and Law Institute of the University of Turin.
Between 1997 and 1998, he was Officer Cadet and Reserve Officer with the rank of Second Lieutenant in the Infantry, Tank Crewman. He served as a Tank Platoon Commander and Deputy Head of the Supply Unit of the Logistic Battalion of the “Ariete” Brigade of Maniago (Pordenone, Italy).
Following the competitive examination for the diplomatic career, he joined the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (31 December 1998).
Between 1998 and 2002, he worked at the Directorate General for Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was Deputy Head of the Asia-Oceania Office. He then served, for a 4 months period, as Deputy Chief of the Special Diplomatic Delegation of the Italian Government to Albania and was later sent on a brief mission at the Embassy of Italy in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Returning to Rome, he was appointed Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the Political Director of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and he served at the NATO Office of the Directorate.
In the period between 2002 and 2006, he served as First Secretary at the Embassy of Italy in Tokyo.
Between 2006 and 2010, he was Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Italy in Dublin.
In the period between 2010 and 2013, he worked at the Directorate General for the European Union of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was responsible for regional cooperation between Italy and the Western Balkans and, later, became Head of the Office in charge of bilateral relations between Italy and the Countries of central and northern Europe.
From February 15, 2013 to November 30, 2017, he was Consul General of Italy in Osaka.
From December 1, 2017 to March 18, 2021, he was the Head of the Office V of the Directorate General for Administration and ICT of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
From October 17, 2018 to March 18, 2021, he is Deputy Central Director for Administration and ICT.
From March 18, 2021 to June 30, 2024, he served as Ambassador of Italy to the United Republic of Tanzania, also responsible for Union of Comoros and East African Community.
From July 1, 2024, he is Head of the Italian Economic, Trade and Cultural Promotion Office in Taipei.
He was awarded the Order of the Merit of the Italian Republic in the rank of Knight.
